Sheboygan County residents will have the chance to gain awareness by putting themselves in the place of someone experiencing homelessness this week.
The Sheboygan County Housing Coalition will be hosting A Night Without Shelter on Friday night (November 6th) into Saturday morning (November 8th), beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, the location of the Sheboygan County Warming Center.
This event coincides with November, which is recognized nationally as Homelessness Awareness Month. During A Night Without Shelter, participants will experience what it’s like to sleep outside, enduring the cold temperatures and harsh conditions that many fellow Sheboyganites experience every night.
On the importance this night will hold, the Housing Coalition has said, “While statistics help us understand the scope of homelessness, sleeping outside—even for one night—creates a deeper, more personal understanding of what our neighbors experiencing homelessness face every day.”
In addition to this experience to understand the bone-chilling reality that those experiencing homelessness face, speakers will be on hand to help raise awareness, reduce stigma, and turn numbers into empathy.
More information on A Night Without Shelter, as well as a link to register for those who would like to participate, can be found on the Sheboygan County Housing Coalition Facebook page.
