A woman charged with purposely burning down a home in the Village of Cleveland has been convicted.
Court records show that 54-year-old Kristin Dewar pleaded no contest to unsafe burning of another’s building and 1st degree recklessly endangering safety in Manitowoc County court last Friday (October 31st).
Other charges included arson of a building without the owner’s consent, while two other charges of 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety were dismissed but read into the record.
Firefighters were called to the Cleveland home in May last year in the 1100 block of Franklin Drive.
A criminal complaint states that the fire was immediately deemed suspicious because a family member was not there, and a gas can was found on the scene.
Law enforcement determined that the fire started in the basement and that others in the home made it out before it got out of control.
One victim who was living in the home told police that Dewar was burning the home because of a bad relationship with those inside.
When law enforcement asked the 52-year-old why she started the fire, she told them she wasn’t sure; she just did.
Dewar will be back in court on November 21st to be sentenced.
