Sargento Cheese, a staple in Sheboygan County, is gaining national recognition after the launch of a new product.
Sargento’s new Natural American Cheese slices were recently honored by Good Housekeeping as a 2026 Kitchen Awards winner.
This product looks to put a new, more natural spin on the classic that is the American cheese slice.
Sargento’s General Manager of Consumer Products, Erin Price, spoke with SeehaferNews.com to discuss the award-winning cheese and what sparked the need to create it.
“Sargento saw a real need for consumers to have a real, natural version of the American cheese that they love,” Price explained. “As we’re trying to address the consumer need for less processed food, we were able to create this real, natural cheese that has only five simple ingredients.”
She also noted how the development of the product required groundbreaking methods in order to make this vision a reality.
“Natural American slices are actually the result of multiple years of research and development,” said Price. “Our innovation team developed proprietary technology, and it’s actually a patent-pending cheese-making technique that simply didn’t exist before. There just wasn’t a blueprint for creating a natural cheese alternative.”
Good Housekeeping’s annual Kitchen Awards look to recognize appliances, tools, gadgets, and food products that change the way home cooks operate.
And for Sargento, being included in the list was an honor after roughly a decade’s worth of planning went into their Natural American Cheese slices.
Price remarked with pride, “We’re so proud of the entire team. Good Housekeeping has been around for almost 120 years now, so it is such a huge honor that they have selected our product for their 2026 award.”
On what separates these Sargento American cheese slices from the rest, with excitement, Price said, “The consumer can have the amazing American cheese melt, texture, taste, ooey-gooey, delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and warm burgers, but with only five simple ingredients and a slice that is 100% real and natural.”
