A jam-packed gym saw Manitowoc Lutheran host Brillion in a WIAA Division Three girls’ volleyball sectional semifinal Thursday night.
The Lancers defeated the Lions in four sets to advance to Saturday’s Division Three sectional final in Chilton. Scores were 25-17, 25-21,17-25 and 25-16.
Head Coach Lacy Behnke says they’re blessed to be moving on, but she tells seehaferNews.com that Brillion, especially junior Emma Schuh, played a terrific match and made the Lancers earn it.
“She really took us out of our game tonight,” she admitted. “We flipped our lineup in set four to counter that and I thought the girls did a nice job bouncing back after losing set three. Set three, we let Brillion dictate tempo, and in set four, we decided to be the hunters.”
Behnke adds that it was far from perfect but gives her kids credit for persevering to survive and advance.
Awaiting the Lancers on Saturday will be a familiar foe in Big East conference rival St. Mary Catholic.
The Zephyrs defeated Peshtigo in three sets to set up the rematch; however, Manitowoc Lutheran swept SMC back on October 7th.
That being said, Coach Behnke says that doesn’t mean much when they meet at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night in Chilton.
“We must serve aggressively and be dialed in on serve-receive to get the ball to our setters and get into our offense,” she explained. “We can’t take moments off and must play each point to the end until it’s awarded to us, then move on to the next one.”
The winner heads to the state tournament at the Resch Center.
