Habitat for Humanity Lakeside is one step closer to building a home on the north side of Sheboygan.
At a Zoning Board of Appeals meeting earlier this month, Habitat Lakeside had its variance request approved to construct a single-family home at the corner of North 22nd Street and Geele Avenue.
The nonprofit has said that they have owned this parcel of land since 2014, after having it donated by a member of the Maitlin family; however, development on the land has been prevented until now due to multiple municipal ordinances.
But, after unanimous approval, the Zoning Board of Appeals waived these limitations, allowing Habitat Lakeside to build the single-family home as part of its Home Buyers Program.
Currently, the organization is in the process of building its 53rd affordable family home in the Sheboygan area, with this newly approved site set to become yet another place a family will be able to call their own in the coming years.
With plans to put that number to 55 homes, Habitat for Humanity will have helped nearly 100 children in a safe, decent, and affordable home in the community.
