A canine was rescued from a house fire in Sheboygan yesterday (October 30th).
The Sheboygan Fire Department was dispatched to a home in the 1100 block of Pershing Avenue at 11:30 a.m., where they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor.
The first crews on the scene began attacking the blaze, while subsequent crews searched the residence and rescued a dog.
The fire was deemed under control within five minutes; however, crews remained on the scene for an hour and a half to conduct an overhaul, check for hot spots, and assist with salvage operations.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the five displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it was estimated to have caused $50,000 in damage.
The Sheboygan Fire Department is reminding residents to check and maintain working smoke detectors in their homes to ensure early warning in the event of a fire.
