Employment scams are on the rise in Northeastern Wisconsin.
The Sheboygan County Job Center is advising job seekers in the area that while these scams see an uptick, scammers are getting smarter.
Many fake job scams will promise things such as easy money, part-time work, and work-from-home dream jobs; however, in reality, they are schemes to take your money.
Such fraudulent “job openings” often require applicants to send money in advance to receive additional information about the so-called opportunity.
The Job Center says ways to protect yourself in these situations include not paying any money up front, never giving out credit card or social security numbers, and being skeptical of ads with 900 numbers listed.
Additionally, those seeking work are advised to check out prospective employers before getting involved.
