A few of State Senator Andre Jacque’s bills aimed at easing the financial burdens on Wisconsin residents have passed Senate Committee votes.
Senate Bill 399, which was co-authored by Rep. Dave Murphy, would put a limit on the tuition and fee increases for Wisconsinites who are attending schools in the UW system.
The duo decided to write the legislation after the Board of Regents raised tuition at UW campuses by 4-5 percent at campuses statewide.
That measure passed in the Senate Committee on Universities and Technical Colleges on a 3-2 vote, while the New Franken’s Tuition Remission for Veterans bill unanimously passed in a Senate committee vote.
That bill, known officially as Senate Bill 59, “incentivizes veterans to relocate and remain in Wisconsin.”
Also passing unanimously was Senate Bill 269, which looks to create a school psychologist loan program administered by the Higher Educational Aids Board (HEAB).
All three bills will now head before the full Senate.
Senator Jacque said of the bills, “It is time to prioritize students over bureaucracy.”
