A Manitowoc County-based voter education organization is looking to teach the public about democracy.
The League of Women Voters, Manitowoc County, will be sponsoring the Vote with Grands campaign, an effort to encourage voter registration and civic participation among young voters through activities and discussions between different generations.
With this initiative, the hope is to engage young voters through discussions with parents, grandparents, and other community members from older generations.
The Vote with Grands campaign will be kicked off on November 5th at the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA with trivia night.
The night of trivia is open to the public, and no registration will be required.
Data from the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) shows that just 47% of young people ages 18 through 29 voted in the 2024 general election.
CIRCLE’s data also shows that while the majority of these young Americans value the basic practices and functions of democracy, however, they remain rather disengaged from civic action.
It is the hope of the League of Women Voters, Manitowoc County to change this. More information on the trivia night or the Vote with Grands campaign can be found by emailing lwvmanitowoccounty@gmail.com.
