Green Bay’s Hazmat Team was called in to a meatpacking plant following a chemical spill.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department received a call yesterday (October 23rd) at approximately 1:45 a.m., reporting the spill, which took place in the Village of Bellevue.
The Hazmat Team and an additional fire apparatus arrived at the meatpacking plant to find a tote containing cleaning acid that had tipped over while being moved by a forklift.
Prior to their arrival, all workers had evacuated the building, and no injuries related to the spill were reported.
The Hazmat Team then entered the building to transfer the spilled acid into an unused tote.
All chemicals were contained and directed to the proper drains, which led to an on-site water treatment plant.
Nearly four hours after the original call was received, the premises were handed back over to the company at approximately 5:30 a.m.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department Hazmat Team was assisted in its response to the chemical spill by the Green Bay Police Department, Brown County Public Safety Communications, the Village of Bellevue and the City of Green Bay Public Works Departments, and the Department of Natural Resources.
