First responders in Sheboygan County were recently selected as recipients for grant funding.
Compeer Financial has announced that they have awarded more than $600,000 in 160 Emergency Response Equipment Grants to agencies across Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota, including four in Sheboygan County.
Among the recipients are the Beechwood Volunteer Fire Department, the Cascade Fire Department, the Oostburg Fire Department, and the Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department.
Beechwood has received hoses and nozzles, while Cascade got new pagers.
The funding went toward a new fan in Oostburg and turnout gear for firefighters in the Town of Sheboygan Falls as well.
The grants handed out by Compeer focus heavily on first responders in rural communities, where data shows these departments are more likely to be struggling to service their communities for reasons such as a lack of staffing, outdated protective equipment, or increases in service requests and the rising costs connected to taking those calls.
