An area District Attorney is again running to be Wisconsin’s “top cop.”
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney has announced his bid to run for Wisconsin Attorney General for a second time.
Toney has been the DA in Fond du Lac County since 2012, having been reelected to the position each of the last three election cycles.
If elected, Toney has said his day-one priorities as Attorney General would be to fix the state’s crime labs, confront the drug crisis, target violent crime, and back victims and law enforcement in each of the 72 counties in Wisconsin.
Fond du Lac County’s DA, who will be running as a Republican, lost the 2022 election to Democrat and current AG Josh Kaul in a narrow race that was decided by less than 35,000 votes.
In his announcement and on his campaign website, Toney says, “Enough with broken promises. Let’s return the Department of Justice to its core priorities: protecting Wisconsinites, supporting victims, and keeping our communities safe.”
Wisconsites will decide who will be the state’s next ‘top cop’ during the November election in 2026.
