The Sheboygan Police Department is set to get new patrol cruisers.
At the Common Council meeting held on Monday (October 20th), the group unanimously approved a resolution to put in a purchase order for five new cruisers for the department.
Funding for this purchase was previously included in the preliminary 2026 budget, and, with production backlog from the Ford Motor Company, getting this order placed before the turn of the year is seen as a prudent matter.
The five cruisers will be 2026 Police Interceptor vehicles that cost $50,275 each after discounts, totaling just over $250,000.
Agenda documents from the Common Council also state, “should the final budget request for 2026 Capital Improvements for the Police Department fail to garner approvals, the orders may be cancelled.”
However, if it is approved, the five cruisers currently in use that are set to be replaced will then be sent to be sold at public auction.
The current price tag for each cruiser is in part thanks to cooperative purchase agreements put in place by the State of Wisconsin, ensuring that municipalities and police departments across the state can take advantage of competitive and pre-negotiated prices.
