Manitowoc’s all-male a cappella group did pretty well during an annual competition.
The Clipper City Chordsmen took a trip to Minneapolis on October 10th and 11th for the Land O’Lakes District Barbershop Convention and Competition.
Over 500 barbershops attended the convention with 382 participants from 15 choruses competing at the state level.
24 members of the Clipper City Chordsmen and their quartet Quandary were part of the competitions.
Competition songs included songs from the Disney movie Toy Story, including “I Will Go Sailing No More” and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”
Chordsmen President Don Lewellen said of the singing, “Chorus members found themselves represented in this song. However, despite our limitations, we still have great friends to rely on.”
The Lake Effect Quartet did not participate in the competition but was one of five quartets to receive three hours of intensive coaching in performance, musicality, and singing during the weekend.
The Land O’Lakes District covers five states and three Canadian Provinces and holds the annual convention each October.
