
Sheboygan County’s Board Chairman has presented his budget proposal for 2026.
In a release from Chairman Keith Abler, the county’s budget will by $216.1 million which includes a $54.7 million property tax levy.
That tax levy is approximately a 1.72% increase from last year, while the proposed county tax rate is down 9.3% from last year.
This means a home worth $100,000 in Sheboygan County will pay an average of $33.31 less than in 2025.
Other major aspects of the budget proposal include major investments in staffing across all county departments, radio and communication upgrades for the Sheriff’s Office, and transportation infrastructure improvements at the airport and the Highway Department shed.
In his release, Board Chairman Abler said budget talks have gone smoothly, stating, “Our budget process continues to be highly effective and collaborative. Every year, we work together to set our overall budget goals and specific department levy targets. This shared process ensures we deliver a balanced and cost-effective budget.”
A public hearing on the 2026 budget proposal in Sheboygan County will be held on October 28th, with final approval to follow on November 4th.
