The City of Manitowoc is getting ready for future road projects.
The Common Council approved the reconstruction of Michigan Avenue from 13th to 18th Street and requested it in the 2027 city budget.
The project will include sanitary sewer line replacement as well as tree removal.
A presentation from the Public Infrastructure Committee shows that the sanitary sewers were built in 1919 and 1921, while storm sewers were installed between 1921 and 1938.
The area between 13th and 18th Street also had asphalt resurfacing twice in 1979 and 1998. During construction, there could be parking lanes and bike route signs installed.
However, it would not be a designated truck route like it has been.
Trees would be removed on Fleetwood Drive between Waldo and Stokes prior to reconstruction as well as on South 9th Street from Dewey to Wilson as well as trees on Reed Avenue from North 8th Street to Hamman Road.
Manitowoc’s Common Council also approved an agreement for the Wisconsin DOT to do some construction on the 10th Street Bridge.
That project would include replacing grid filled sidewalks with fiberglass panels, rehabilitation of stringers and floor beam connections, replacement of the steel grid deck and improvements to warning gates.
That project will cost about $12.3 million with $312,500 coming from city funds.
However, the starting date was not announced.
