A man from Wolf River convicted of killing his parents has been sentenced.
Court documents show that 28-year-old Erik Metzig was back in a Winnebago County courtroom on Friday (October 17th) after being found guilty of two counts of First-Degree Intentional Homicide after shooting and killing his parents, Jan and Dave Metzig, in March of 2023.
At Friday’s hearing, the 28-year-old was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison without parole and was ordered to pay over $99,000 in restitution to the court.
A criminal complaint explains that in 2023, police were called to the Metzig’s Wolf River home, where the bodies of Jan and Dave were found in a bedroom.
They were covered in blankets with gunshot wounds to their heads.
Erik was later located and arrested at the YMCA in Kimberly, where blood smears were found on his vehicle.
The complaint didn’t mention a motive, but a journal written by Erik apparently detailed that he wanted to “eliminate” his parents to make it look like they went missing while out for a walk.
