The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents of the importance of properly disposing of prescription drugs.
Holding on to unused or unwanted medication can be a problem, especially if there are children in the home.
These drugs can be stolen, used inappropriately, or end up on the street.
The first instinct may be to flush them down the toilet; however, the Northeast Recycling Council notes that doing so “has added to the problem of medications in our water supplies.”
While they are not holding a formal drug take back event, law enforcement agencies around the county do have permanent drop off locations which are available all year round.
Unwanted medications can be dropped off at the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office on South 9th Street in Manitowoc, the Manitowoc Police Department on Jay Street, the Two Rivers Police Department on East Park Street, the Kiel Police Department on Paine Street, or the Mishicot Police Department on East Main Street.
