A student at Manitowoc Lincoln High School has been arrested after attacking a fellow student.
The school’s Resource Officer was contacted by the school nurse, who said that a parent had called her to report their son had been involved in a fight.
The incident was said to have occurred in the boys’ bathroom near the library just before 8:00 Thursday morning.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of what were described as significant injuries.
A review of surveillance footage showed the victim entering the restroom, followed shortly thereafter by a 17-year-old student.
The suspect told the officer that the victim had called him and others in the bathroom names, which led to the altercation; however, the victim claimed the suspect had been the one to start the verbal spat.
The suspect claimed no punches were thrown; however, a separate witness noted that the suspect had punched the victim “about six times.”
The mother of the victim told police, “This wasn’t some little high school fight. This was an assault on my son.”
The officer later went to the victim’s home, where the officer reported being “shocked” by the severity of the victim’s injuries.
The victim noted that he had never had any contact with the suspect or his friends prior to the altercation.
The suspect was then arrested on charges of Physical Abuse of a Child, Intentionally Causing Bodily Harm, and Disorderly Conduct.
