Court proceedings have been halted as the alleged gunman in a Sheboygan Falls homicide is seeking legal counsel.
35-year-old Luis E. Cruz Burgos was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Wednesday (October 8th); however, that hearing was delayed as he is still without a lawyer.
Court records show that Cruz Burgos is eligible for representation through the Public Defender’s Office but has yet to have counsel appointed.
The 35-year-old has been charged with one count of First-Degree Reckless Homicide for the fatal shooting that claimed the life of 32-year-old Giovanni Michael Robinson.
The shooting took place in the 600 block of Monroe Street in Downtown Sheboygan Falls just after midnight on September 24th.
While Cruz Burgos awaits a public defender to be appointed to his case, he remains in the Sheboygan County Jail on $2 million cash bond, which was set by Court Commissioner Ryan O’Rourke upon request from District Attorney Joel Urmanski, who described the incident as a “violent, senseless act.”
Cruz Burgos will next return to court on October 20th for a status conference.
