A Manitowoc man facing a slew of charges in two separate incidents is having trouble finding a lawyer.
Court records show that 23-year-old Jonathan Gallegos returned to court on Monday (October 6th) with prosecutors saying he qualifies for the public defender’s office.
Still, the office is unable to find an attorney to represent him.
Judge Mark Rohrer extended the time limits and moved Gallegos’s case to January next year for an adjourned initial appearance.
Gallegos faces numerous charges for incidents that include pointing a gun at high school students and hurting a woman after an argument that turned physical.
The gun incident allegedly happened last year when he attempted to flee from police before stopping in the 1100 block of South 12th Street.
He then fled on foot, leaving several people inside.
The person who called the police said Gallegos pointed what appeared to be a rifle at two students, causing the caller to yell at him.
However, Gallegos would approach the person and hit them multiple times.
He told police that the people were his brother’s “best friends” and that they were in a “Nerf War.”
Manitowoc Police say no such Nerf gun was found.
