Sheboygan residents will be paying more for a trip in an ambulance next year.
During this week’s Common Council meeting, the group unanimously approved a resolution that will increase the ambulance service rates for the Sheboygan Fire Department, beginning in 2026.
This increase marks the second time in three years that rates will be hiked in Sheboygan.
Documents provided at the meeting show that residents will pay anywhere between 11% and 20% more next year, depending on the type of treatment they receive.
The biggest increase comes for patients requiring specialty transports, which includes IV pumps or ventilators en route to the hospital, who will pay over $300 more than they did this year.
The Fire Department has stated that their rationale for these increases will ensure cost recovery and sustainability for the advanced EMS services they offer while staying in line with comparable community fire departments across Wisconsin.
The approved rate increases can be seen online by viewing the October 6th Common Council agenda.
