A man in Outagamie County is facing child abuse charges in an incident the district attorney’s office is calling “lucky not to be a homicide.”
FOX11 reports that 35-year-old William Page has been charged with physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing great bodily harm, and strangulation and suffocation after the six-week-old child was brought to a hospital in Neenah by the mother for injuries to the boy’s mouth.
The mother then told police that Page hit the child’s chest about a week prior and had “angry outbursts” while caring for the boy.
A criminal complaint alleges that Page would hold the six-week-old so tightly that the boy would go limp when he was crying sometimes.
When asked if he thought he could have killed the child, he said, “It’s possible, but not meaning to, yes, it could have happened.”
It was also reported in the complaint that the six-week-old has seven rib fractures, a clavicle fracture, fractures to both femurs, an eye hemorrhage, chest contusion, and a wrist fracture.
Page was given a $100,000 cash bail and will return to court on October 23rd for a status conference, as he has not yet retained a lawyer.
