Police in Oshkosh are warning the public that thefts from vehicles continue to rise across the city.
In total, the Oshkosh Police Department has had 36 cases of theft from a vehicle reported to them since March of this year.
They are stressing the importance of taking proper preventive measures, as five of those 36 cases involved the theft of a firearm, three of which involved a vehicle that was left unlocked.
Oshkosh Police urge residents to close all windows and ensure that all doors are locked, even if the vehicle is parked inside a garage. Furthermore, they recommend citizens remove all valuable items from a vehicle and park in well-lit areas under video surveillance if possible.
When addressing the theft of firearms from vehicles in the city, the Oshkosh Police Department added, “By being proactive with crime prevention, you help to reduce the risk of theft. Ensuring firearms are removed from vehicles and safely locked inside of homes can help keep our community safe.”
Any resident who sees suspicious activity in their neighborhood is asked to report it to the police department by calling 920-236-5700.
