The City of Manitowoc is hoping to get a grant to help plant trees.
During a special meeting on Monday (September 29th), the Common Council approved a resolution to apply for a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry Grant.
Mayor Justin Nickels said the city got the grant in 2023 but didn’t in 2024.
Parks Planner Brock Wetenkamp says the grant money had been used to cut trees down, but this time it would be used to help plant trees all around the city.
The grant amount ranges from $1,000 to $25,000 and requires a 50-50 match, meaning the city will have to raise half of grant money.
