The City of Kiel is getting some railroad tracks removed.
City Administrator Dave Funkhouser says the city has reached an agreement with CN Railroad to remove three crossings at Fremont and St. Paul Streets, as well as on Foundry Road.
Removal includes the rails, flashing lights, and signs. Once the tracks are removed, the roadway will be paved over.
Work on the train track removal won’t start until Spring of 2026, but Funkhouser says it’s very good news and has been something that’s been an issue for many years.
He also credited Sixth District Alderperson Alice Acther and Kiel Resident Jack Lechler for having numerous conversations with staff at CN Railroad about removing the vacated crossings.
