The Sheboygan County SaberCats were in Indianapolis on Saturday to take on the Kansas City Panthers in the Tier 1 Midwest Championship as a part of the National Bowl Series.
The Cats jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and never looked back, as they cruised to a 37-24 win. Larry Rivers scampered in for a touchdown on the Cats’ opening drive, and Kaden Summerville would beat his man for a 50-yard pitch and catch from Midwest United Football League MVP Justin Billiot in the first quarter.
The defense, wanting to get involved, forced a safety before the Panthers responded with a score of their own.
Billiot would find his favorite target, Steve Strong, in the endzone with 2 minutes left in the first half to extend the lead to 23-8, which would remain the score into the break.
Summerville would add to the lead midway through the 3rd quarter, taking a screen pass 20 yards to the house, and Billiot would make it an even four TD passes when he found Ty Nelson on a 50-yard bomb to extend the lead to 37-8.
The Panthers would add some garbage-time scores, but never really posed any threat.
The SaberCats were also invited to participate in a National Bowl game in Florida in January.
