Last night’s 56 to 0 victory over Random Lake/Ozaukee at Coach Heiderich Field improved Manitowoc Lutheran’s record to 6-0 with three games remaining.
A playoff berth appears to be within reach, but it didn’t come without a lot of sacrifice and hard work behind the scenes.
Head Coach Ryan Hulse tells SeehaferNews.com that he has a group of kids who understand what it takes to achieve great things.
“We knew we had a special group of kids who worked hard over the summer and love to compete,” he explained. “When you have a group of boys who want to beat one another to the classroom, that’s special because it shows how much they want to win. They want to do well and that’s why you see the results that have come to bear so far this season. It’s truly awesome.”
This team is truly balanced, as they have several ways to beat you and players who can execute the game plan to perfection.
Senior quarterback Jaymen Ott is among the top in overall quarterback rating in the state, senior lineman Collin Rounds is a four-year starter, and seniors Issac Wagner and Isiah Muchka are blessed with speed and strength that help them excel at both running back/wide receiver and defensively.
Wagner scored on a run, pass and punt return in a victory over Horicon Hustisford earlier this season, while Muchka is also not afraid to hit you, saying he may enjoy that part of the game more than even scoring a touchdown.
Both boys realize this team has the makings of something special that Wagner says was validated early in the year.
“Against Cedar Grove, we thought it was going to be a competitive game,” Wagner noted. “When we put up 47 points against a very good team, we knew we had something special. I think this team can achieve great things, including a deep playoff run and hopefully a trip to Madison to compete for a state championship.”
Muchka agrees but emphasized, “We can take anyone lightly. But with the confidence we have right now, we are cooking as a team and hopefully we can take it all the way.”
The Lancers return to action next Friday night when they head to Oostburg to battle the Flying Dutchmen.
