Senator Andre Jacque’s “No Tax on Tips” and Stillbirth Tax Credit bills are continuing to make their way through the legislature.
The Senate Committee on Agriculture and Revenue has passed both bills, which have bipartisan support.
Senate Bill 36 and its companion bill, Assembly Bill 38, which aim to eliminate tax imposed on income made via tips, were crafted after President Donald Trump delivered on his campaign pledge to eliminate the federal income tax on tips.
Sen. Jacque noted, “If signed into law, SB 36 will provide tax relief to so many working-class Wisconsinites employed in our robust hospitality and tourism industries and will reward great employees throughout the state for the excellent service they provide.”
Meanwhile, Senate Bill 379 looks to provide a $2,000 refundable individual income tax credit to parents of stillborn children.
Sen. Jacque said of the bill, “While nothing can compensate for the loss of a child, establishing this tax credit will hopefully alleviate some of the financial burden stillbirth parents face, while giving meaningful, statutory recognition to the loss of their child.”
Both bills are now awaiting a vote in the full Senate.
