Kewanna Ashford and family, intended buyer of Habitat Lakeside's 53rd home
Habitat for Humanity Lakeside is doing its part to keep children out of harm’s way with its Home Buyers Program.
Currently, Habitat Lakeside is building its 53rd home in the Sheboygan community, while homes 54 and 55 are not far behind that.
After those 55 homes are completed, Habitat Lakeside will have played a crucial role in helping nearly 100 children live in safe, affordable, and stable homes.
Data provided by the Sheboygan nonprofit states that the average income in Wisconsin is approximately $50,000 per year, while the income needed to buy a home is estimated to be $87,000.
To this point, Habitat for Humanity Lakeside said, “Clearly, the American Dream is out of reach for many people.”
Stable housing not only plays a key role in a child’s well-being physically, but emotionally and academically as well.
Those who grow up in overcrowded, unsafe homes or who are constantly moving are at a higher risk of severe health conditions or illness, putting an emphasis on the importance of the Home Buyers Program.
Not only does this program ensure families have a roof above their heads, but it also allows parents to better their children’s mental and physical health now and into the future.
