The Two Rivers girls’ volleyball team has started to turn the corner this season.
Last year, the team went 7-21 overall and 0-7 in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference, but with five seniors leading the Raiders, they have already approached last season’s win total.
Head Coach Jeremy Otte is optimistic about the start of the season as they sit 5-4.
“One of the main goals we have this year is to finish in the top half of the conference, so three or four better,” he told SeehaferNews.com. “And we also want to try to earn a home playoff game, which means our record needs to be above .500.”
A lot of that success comes from how well the team stays connected and confident as they go throughout the year.
They have been able to experience lots of team bonding over the summer by participating in games down by Wisconsin Dells before the season started.
Three-year varsity contributor Senior Anna Klein is a major reason for how the team can connect not only in games but off the court as well.
“There’s no beef that I know of, unlike past seasons where I was kind of just like segregated,” she explained. “I feel like we’re all together.”
Piper Engh is one of the five seniors who are all ready to do whatever it takes to compete for these goals.
“The three years, we have not gotten a regional game at home,” she noted. “Last year, we were really close. We were one away, but I think it would be really cool to get one regional game at home.”
The Raiders will be back on the court on Thursday as they host Valders at the Two Rivers High School Gymnasium.
JV matches will begin at 5:30, and the varsity duel will start at 7:00 p.m.
