A week and two days after the shooting of Charlie Kirk, the Republican Party of Manitowoc County will be hosting a candlelight vigil for him tonight.
All are welcome to the event at Washington Park for the vigil, which will begin at 7:00.
Collin Braunel, the Chair of the Republican Party of Manitowoc County, appeared on The Jim and Rick Show on WOMT this morning, where he announced that special guests and speakers will be in attendance.
“We have an individual from Turning Point that’s coming and then some people from the community,” he explained.
While there are many people who did not like what Kirk had to say, Braunel noted that this vigil is intended to be a peaceful remembrance of him.
“Charlie Kirk stood for a fair, honest, open debate with a sense of hearing both sides,” Braunell said. “So as we’re faced with other people that may not share our opinions, it’s best to treat them as fellow Americans who are exercising free speech.”
While Kirk was a political activist, Braunel noted that his event is not intended to be political, but rather a remembrance of a life taken at only 31 years old.
His funeral will be showcased on the big screens at Faith Church next to Festival Foods in Manitowoc this Sunday.
All are welcome to attend, with the doors opening at 12:30 p.m.
