Two progressive organizations and a Milwaukee immigration organization are hosting community rallies in Eastern Wisconsin.
The Saturday (September 20th) rallies with Indivisible Brown County, Progressive Lakeshore People, and Voces de La Frontera will take place in Oshkosh, Green Bay, Oconto, and Manitowoc. Manitowoc’s event will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Washington Park.
Wanda Sieber with Indivisible Brown County explained to Seehafernews.com that the rallies will recognize the positive contributions immigrants make in a community and encourage respectful dialogue.
She says immigrant workers are essential in Wisconsin.
“Certainly in agriculture, but also manufacturing,” she explained. “Our meat plants, local businesses, hospitality.”
Sieber says the rally will also explain what it’s like in the immigrant world now, dispel myths, and explain how they can be helped.
Two members from Voces de La Frontera will also speak, as will local business leaders, including a union leader who works at a meatpacking plant in Green Bay.
Sieber detailed that the group will talk about “how their business is being challenged right now because of the number of people who were here legally as immigrants, and the president has reversed the status of their immigration, and suddenly they are illegal.”
This has been part of a series of events and protests hosted by progressive groups following Donald Trump’s election as president in 2024.
