One of the most popular hunting seasons in Wisconsin is now open.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters to properly prepare for waterfowl hunting season, which opened this week.
While the Canada goose season officially opened statewide on Tuesday (September 16th), regular duck hunting season will not open until October 4th in the southern zone, which includes Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Winnebago, and Calumet Counties.
Goose season will be open in three segments, with segment two starting on October 18th and segment three opening on December 20th.
As for duck season, the southern zone, the only hunting zone in the state to have two duck hunting segments, will stay open until October 12th before starting again on October 18th.
The DNR urges any hunters looking to participate to familiarize themselves with daily bag limits, license requirements, and the potential risks of bird flu that can arise while hunting waterfowl.
