For the second month in a row, the Port of Green Bay has seen an uptick in tonnage.
Dean Haen, Port of Green Bay Director, reported that 244,675 tons of cargo came through in August, which is nearly 23,000 tons more than in July, which saw nearly 79,000 tons more than in June.
Overall, this year, the Port is still 21% behind where it was at this point last year, but that is much better than the 36% they were behind at the end of July.
Hean noted, “If this pace continues, we expect the season to close at a level comparable to last year,” when nearly 1.7 million tons of product came through on 181 vessels.
Four key commodities moved through the Port of Green Bay in August, including limestone (119,019 tons), petroleum products (45,718 tons), cement (44,581 tons), and salt (35,357 tons).
A total of 24 vessels visited the Port last month, bringing the year-to-date total to 77 ships.
