Manitowoc’s new 4th district alderwoman wants to finish the story her husband started.
The Manitowoc Common Council unanimously approved the appointment of Jodi Brey, wife of former Alderman Jim Brey.
The newest alder didn’t grow up within the City of Manitowoc but is from the area.
Jodi tells SeehaferNews.com that she is a graduate and an English teacher at Manitowoc Lincoln High School, where she serves as chairman of the English Department.
She said, “Love my city, maybe not as much as my husband, but pretty close.”
But now it’s her time to finish what Jim Brey started.
Jodi noted, “He would be unsatisfied if we didn’t get to put a period on the end of these 34 years in government.”
Jodi exclaimed that Jim loved the city almost as much as he loved his family.
But she won’t have him talked about in the past tense, saying tells us he’s still here.
She also says she’s excited to start her committee assignments, which include being on the Finance Committee, which Jim chaired for many years.
“They (the committee chairpersons) have helped immensely, the city,” she explained. “I owe an immense debt to the city staff, the city council for their support in the last month. And I can believe that if I have questions that I can go to either of them at any time.”
Jodi will fill the rest of the 4th Aldermanic term, but the seat is up for election in 2026.
Jim Brey served the City of Manitowoc for over 30 years, having been first elected to the Common Council in 1992.
He passed away suddenly in August at the age of 58.
