A Sheboygan nonprofit is showing its support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County is looking to help break the silence that many victims are going through.
Safe Harbor states that survivors of domestic and sexual violence face higher risks of depression, PTSD, and suicidal thoughts.
This trauma can harbor feelings of hopelessness and isolation, all of which can increase the risk of suicide.
They continued to say, “By learning the warning signs and how to support someone in crisis, we can help break the cycle and save lives.”
These warning signs of suicidal thoughts will often include withdrawing from friends and family, the display of extreme mood swings, and taking dangerous risks.
If you or someone you know is experiencing this behavior, getting help as soon as possible could save a life.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, you can call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988, while the Safe Harbor Helpline can be reached by calling 1-800-499-7640.
