Sheboygan’s representative in the State Assembly has introduced legislation to help kids while in school.
26th District Assemblyman Joe Sheehan has introduced the Kids First bill package, aiming to address the issues facing K-12 education in the state.
Major parts of the bill package include a general aid increase to school funding, an additional line on itemized tax bills displaying the cost of school vouchers, and highlighting the Healthy Meals for All bill, which was previously introduced.
Rep. Sheehan stated that the itemized tax bill portion of the bill would show taxpayers where their money is going and increase transparency as to how voucher schools affect school funding in Wisconsin.
He continued to explain, “This package is a step in the right direction to make sure every student has the tools they need to be successful. No student can learn while they are hungry, just like no teacher can teach without the funding and the tools for the job.”
Sheehan, while referencing his career in education, believes that this bill would help improve learning outcomes in the state.
