Cheese sold at Wisconsin grocery stores has been recalled.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that Middlefield-branded cheese products distributed to four states, including Wisconsin, have been recalled due to a possible Listeria contamination.
The products in question were sold at grocery locations in Wisconsin and range from 8-ounce to 5-pound bags of various Middlefield cheeses.
The items were distributed between July 7th and August 14th and may have various sell-by dates on the packaging depending on when they were purchased.
The recall was issued after testing from Middlefield revealed the presence of Listeria on both the cheese products and the cutting equipment in their facility.
However, at this time, there have been zero cases of Listeria associated with the consumption of the recalled cheese.
Listeria can cause fatal infections, most notably in the elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems.
Anyone with the recalled cheese products in their possession is urged to throw them out or return them to their place of purchase.
Product labels for the recalled items can be found by visiting fda.gov.
