A 17-year-old student is in custody after reportedly bringing a firearm to La Follette High School.
According to Madison police, the teen left campus after arriving with the gun, stashed it elsewhere, and later returned.
Officers recovered an unloaded handgun off-campus and found ammunition in the student’s backpack.
A photo discovered on the student’s phone showed him holding the same weapon.
He now faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm on school property, carrying a concealed weapon, and illegal possession due to age.
Authorities say the school day continued without incident.
