
Elizabeth “Betty” A. Swadner passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at age 90, at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
She was born in Winona, Minnesota, to Helen (Nass) and Fred Neumann, on May 6, 1935. Betty graduated from Lewiston High School, in Lewiston, Minnesota in 1953. She continued her education at Winona State University receiving her Bachelor’s degree in business education. Betty was a teacher at Great Mills High School, Lexington Park, Maryland. She then returned to Winona for 3 years from 1958 to 1961. In past years she had lived in Iowa; Tucson, Arizona where she taught the deaf and blind for 2 years; Fairbanks, Alaska where she taught Manpower Classes in typing and accounting for 2 years; and Xenia, Ohio teaching at the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors orphan home. In 1975 to 1976, Betty attended Wright State University, in Dayton, Ohio, receiving her Master’s degree while also teaching night classes there during that time. She became employed as a business teacher at Springfield-Clark Joint Vocational School, in Springfield, Ohio. In 1978 she came to Manitowoc and was a teacher at Lincoln High School and Washington Junior High School, from where she retired in 1998. Betty also taught evening classes at Lakeshore Technical College for 15 years.
Betty is survived by her husband Matt, son Fred Swadner, daughter Laura (Mike) Tuzzolino [pronounced “Two-zo-lee-no”], 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter Maureen Swadner.
Cremation has occurred at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel. Relatives and friends may gather for an urn burial service on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. Please meet at the 18th St. entrance.
