The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was busy with pursuits over the weekend.
The department was involved in two separate pursuits last Wednesday (September 3rd), with the first starting just before 2:45 p.m. at the Walmart in Fond du Lac, after a vehicle was pulled over for failing to stop at a stoplight.
While talking to the passenger, the driver decided to drive away, and a brief pursuit started.
However, it was called off after deputies lost sight of the vehicle.
The suspect’s vehicle was later found behind the Fond du Lac Pick N’ Save, but without the driver.
Sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter and locked down a local middle school for safety while K9s tracked the suspects.
The 28-year-old passenger was found at an apartment complex located just south of the grocery store; however, the driver was not found.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s also found a backpack with 2.3 pounds of marijuana that the suspects had discarded in the area.
The second pursuit began just before midnight after a vehicle was ignored when being pulled over in the Village of Rosendale because the registered driver didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
The suspects were on Main Street and turned onto Rose-Eld Road at a high rate of speed while avoiding stop signs.
The deputy in the pursuit lost sight of the suspects but then found their vehicle in a ditch on Highway 23 and Rose-Eld Road.
Ripon Police were called in with a drone and K9s to search for the suspects, but they were not located.
While a tow truck company was waiting to tow the vehicle, a Wisconsin State Trooper told Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s that a different vehicle with the same registered owner as one of the suspects was seen not far from where they were investigating the crash.
The second vehicle then drove by, and sheriff’s deputies pulled it over.
Instead of running, the suspect admitted to being in pursuit before.
A 28-year-old and a 23-year-old man were arrested on multiple charges, with the 23-year-old being on parole for aggravated battery in Brown County.
The 24-year-old driver was also arrested on drug charges.
