A portion of the Lincoln Park Zoo in Manitowoc is closing starting on Monday (September 8th).
Construction at the zoo for the future Coastal Wetland Aviary is closing the southeast portion of the area for the rest of 2025.
All other areas of the zoo will remain open to visitors while construction continues.
Workers will stage equipment in the Reed Avenue parking lot and transport materials through the Zoo on a regular basis, which could cause some traffic-related congestion.
The city plans to take out fencing where the zoo is closest to the Little Manitowoc River and clear out invasive species to turn the area into a more natural place.
The project also includes putting in new boardwalks and bridges while recreating the natural area.
About $95,000 for the project came from Governor Evers’ administration through the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program.
