The skills of youth golfers will be on display this weekend at Whistling Straits.
The premier course on the shores of Lake Michigan will play host to the Drive, Chip, and Putt regional qualifier on Sunday (September 7th) beginning at 10:00 a.m.
This qualifier will have children between the ages of 7 and 15 competing for the longest drive, closest chip to the pin, and best putt in an effort to be named a national finalist.
In total, 80 national finalists in each division will move on from these qualifier rounds across the country to take part in the 12th annual Drive, Chip, and Putt National Finals set to take place at the prestigious Augusta National, one day prior to the beginning of the Masters Tournament.
Last year, Wisconsin native Abby Henricksen of Deforest was crowned the National Champion in the girls 14 to 15 year old division, posting the single greatest chipping performance in the history of the Drive, Chip, and Putt Finals.
On the return of this regional competition to the Straits, Mike O’Reilly, General Manager of Blackwolf Run and Whistling, said, “We are pleased to continue this partnership by hosting, for the second time, the Drive, Chip and Putt Regional Finals…What an honor for the kids, for our team, and for the community as a whole.”
