The Two Rivers Police Department is remembering one of their own fifty years later.
The department will have a remembrance ceremony for Officer Thomas Dodge next Wednesday (September 10th) at Central Park West at 4:00 p.m.
September 10th was the day Officer Dodge was killed in the line of duty back in 1975.
Police Chief Ben Meinnert explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that while he wasn’t around when Officer Dodge was serving, his passing had a big impact on the community.
Meinnert says it’s being catered toward the Dodge family.
“Also, a lot of the officers that worked with him at the time are still around and maybe present to say a few words,” he described. “And then the public too, there may be people that also want to take time to mention a few words in remembrance of Tom Dodge.”
Dodge and another officer were called to an apartment in Two Rivers back in 1975 after a patient at a hospital left without checking out.
The suspect fired a shotgun through the apartment door, striking Dodge.
He would pass away from injuries he sustained.
The suspect was later found not guilty by reason of mental disease in the death of the officer and would later die at a state mental institution.
Dodge was 24 years old when he passed.
