The Manitowoc Police Department put in fifteen days of work for this year’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign.
Manitowoc Police Lieutenant Bruce Tuma tells Seehafernews.com that 34 patrol officers dedicated hours of traffic enforcement from August 15th to September 1st during the campaign.
There were 315 traffic stops, during which 13 people were arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.
Officers also wrote 251 warnings and gave out 70 traffic tickets.
Tuma says during the Labor Day holiday, the department sees an increase in drunk driving deaths, which is why you see more law enforcement on the roads.
Manitowoc Police worked with other departments as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s campaign.
Working together, drivers can make roads safer by having a plan for where they’re driving, planning a safe ride home if they’re drinking, and ensuring that someone impaired does not get behind the wheel.
