The City of Manitowoc is getting ready to present its zoning code update.
The city explains that the current code was adopted in the 1980s with periodic corrections and additions made over the years.
Now, parts of it are no longer consistent and don’t reflect best practices.
Manitowoc officials updated their Comprehensive Plan, which included possible changes to the zoning code.
The goal is to rewrite the zoning ordinance to reflect the character of newer development while preserving the historic characteristics of an older city with a historic downtown.
That could include changes on what can be built on private property, what land can be used for, or how large or small structures can be.
There will be a public open house on Wednesday, September 24th, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, followed by a regular presentation by the Manitowoc Plan Commission from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
