An arrest has been made in a Manitowoc burglary case.
Manitowoc Police were called to Walmart on August 18th to investigate a reported burglary that occurred early the prior morning.
A man was caught on surveillance video breaking into the store through the GM doors while the store was closed, and made his way to the electronics section.
He allegedly took two pink Xbox controllers into the nearby bathroom, removed them from their packages, and left the way he came.
The only clue in the case was the vehicle he arrived in, a silver Toyota Sienna. However, when police called the registered owner of the vehicle, identified through the license plates, who claimed she did not own such a vehicle.
This left the case cold until the vehicle was found on Monday (September 1st), abandoned in the parking lot of the Manitowoc AmericInn on Hecker Road.
Investigators took DNA from the vehicle before having it towed.
Before they could get the results back, a 24-year-old man entered the Manitowoc Police Department lobby and turned himself in.
He told police that he took one of the controllers to Milwaukee, where he sold it for $60, and threw away the other because the person who wanted to buy it backed out.
The man noted that he was homeless, and had been drifting between Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Belgium, and had parked the aforementioned vehicle at the AmericInn and had been sleeping in it.
The man was then arrested on a single charge of Burglary.
