With the return of a new school year, authorities in Sheboygan are urging safety.
The Sheboygan Police Department and Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office have shared important details regarding school zone safety.
Drivers are required to go no more than 15 MPH when passing a schoolhouse during times when students are going to or from school.
They are also required not to exceed 15 MPH when passing an intersection marked with a school crossing sign with any child present or with a school crossing guard within the crosswalk.
During this first week of classes, deputies with the Sheriff’s Office will be conducting increased patrols in and around school zones to ensure children’s safety and that drivers are exhibiting safe practices.
These increased patrols will be done throughout the county during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
It is also illegal to pass a school bus that has stopped to pick up or drop off children.
Following these simple guidelines can ensure students make it to school safe and ready to learn.
