Today is Grief Awareness Day, and Emplify Health is helping the community understand the layers of grief.
Grief can occur for a number of reasons, such as losing a loved one, dealing with divorce or another major life change, or being told that certain physical freedoms or aspects of your life will be no more.
It can also be manifested through emotional, mental, and physical pain.
Emplify Health by Bellin Psychiatrist Tanya Malek noted, “It can sneak in quietly or hit like a wave. Sometimes it changes how we show up at work, in relationships, or just in how we feel in our skin. And often, we don’t even recognize it at first.”
Emplify Health’s Bellin and Gundersen regions provide a variety of services to support patients and their families through grief, including counseling and therapy services, support groups, educational resources, and collaboration among caregivers and providers.
Individuals seeking suicide prevention and crisis support are encouraged to call or text the 24/7 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.
